TThe whiskers are made of metal wire. It was then glazed and fired in a raku kiln. Like the Owl, the cat was take out of the kiln glowing orangy yellow and placed in the reduction chamber (trash can with paper). The carbon turns the unglazed areas gray-black and highlights the features and crackle glaze.
